We've reached the final of a second farming award

The teams at the brewery and Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery are celebrating after being shortlisted for a second prestigious farming award. We have reached the final of the Diversification of the Year (Large) category in the 12th annual British Farming Awards. Co-founder of both businesses, Tom Mellor, said: “We’re proud that Hunmanby Grange farm sustains the two businesses with home-grown barley and provides employment for over 40 local people. We’re naturally delighted to have been shortlisted for a second prestigious farming award.” Both businesses have also been shortlisted for Diversification Farmer of the Year at the Farmers’ Weekly Awards. July and August for us here at Wold Top mean harvest and currently that entails checking the crops daily to see how they are ripening and constantly monitoring the weather forecast! Despite the rain we’ve actually managed to get all the winter barley harvested already but the winter wheat is still waiting to be harvested and the spring barley fields are a way off being ready yet. We struck gold at the SIBA Awards!

The team at the brewery is celebrating after winning three awards in an industry-wide beer competition. Landmark Lager and Headland Red won gold awards and new beer Sun Drench won a silver award at the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) North East Regional Keg Awards held in Sheffield last week. Landmark Lager won the Session Lager Category, Headland Red won the Amber, Brown, and Red Ale Category, and Sun Drench was the runner-up in the Pale Ale Category. Join us for an afternoon of art

Following the success of the initial ‘Can’t Paint’ art and brewery tour event earlier in the year, tickets have gone on sale for a second afternoon of art. Nafferton artist Sandra Hood will lead the session the brewery on August 17th and the subject will be the iconic Wolds mammal, the hare. “This is the perfect event if you've always dreamed of painting, but don’t think you can. We are very proud of our export achievements to date and only hope to further them as we grow over the next few years. Last month, we hosted a visit from our Italian importer, Cuzziol Beverage, who, alongside three agents, brought over a group of 14 wholesalers and retailers from all over Italy. They toured the farm, saw the barley growing on site, tasted new beers and also popped down to the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery for a tour there.
