There's nothing like an anniversary to start you reminiscing, so here is some information about the history of Wold Top and Hunmanby Grange Farm: The Mellor family, current owners of Hunmanby Grange Farm, the location of Wold Top Brewery, will have been farming and working the land here for 78 years this year.The family moved here in 1945, after the war ended for a new start and new lifestyle. The teams at the brewery and sister company Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery are celebrating after reaching the final of the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards in the Small and Micro Exporter categories respectively. Kate Balchin, director at the brewery and sister of the distillery’s marketing director, Jenni Ashwood, said: “Despite the challenges posed by post-Brexit trading, exports remain an important and growing part of both our businesses. We're pleased to share the news that we have created a new apprenticeship role in our admin team. Josh Pickard from Bridlington joined the team recently as Office Administrator and is combining work at the brewery with studying for a Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship qualification at Craven College in Skipton. Did you know that the very first batch of beer we ever (successfully) brewed here at Wold Top was Wold Top Bitter? Brewed on the 14th May 2003 by founder Tom, and it’s been his favourite beer ever since! It’s still our best selling cask beer - loved by all.  The term "bitter" has been used in England to describe pale ale since the early 19th century. Wold Top Brewery and Books by the Beach are partnering again for the annual festival beer naming competition.
