Harvest 2023
Posted by Tracey Baty on

July and August for us here at Wold Top mean harvest and currently that entails checking the crops daily to see how they are ripening and constantly monitoring the weather forecast! It’s been one of the wettest Julys we’ve seen (as we’re sure you’ve experienced too!) so we managed to get our winter barley harvested between showers last weekend but the wheat is still waiting and the spring barley fields are a way off being ready yet. For the barley harvest, (both spring and winter), what we are looking for are ears of corn with lots of tightly packed grains....

We're happy to share the news that the Big Sky Beer Festival has been shortlisted in the Rural Event of the Year category in the seventh Yorkshire Post Rural Awards. “The tours and events side of our business is going from strength to strength so we’re very pleased that our beer festival has been shortlisted for this prestigious award,” said brewery director, Kate Balchin. We face competition from Yorkshire Agricultural Machinery Show, The Barn That Rocks and Rudolph’s Run. We will learn whether we have been successful at an awards ceremony at The Pavilions in Harrogate on Thursday, 28th September. Wish us luck!

Wow, where have the last six months gone?! Ahead of a busy summer, we thought now was a great time to do a quick recap of the last six months and look forward to the remaining half of the year! We kicked off the year with our first live music night in February, and then followed that with another raucous night of Singo Bingo in March. Brewery director and keen runner, Alex Balchin is looking forward to the event: “Starting from the brewery, you'll run an all-terrain 10k race around the Wold Top farm, finishing back at the brewery bar for a well-deserved pint and some food! "We are blessed with amazing scenery...
Oktoberfest is back!

Our first Oktoberfest was such a success last year that we're doing it all again this year! Join us here at the brewery on 30th September for a great night that promises the return of our specially brewed Oktoberfest beer, Field Day, German food with a Yorkshire twist and an Oompah Band. Our new events co-ordinator, Michelle Savage can't wait: “We had such good feedback from last year’s event and our brewers were excited to have another opportunity to brew Field Day, so we’re repeating our German beer festival with a Yorkshire twist. We’re all really excited and it should...
