Meet the Brewer to celebrate fundraising feat

An East Yorkshire bar is hosting a meet the brewer event with a difference.
The Marine Bar in Bridlington has invited Tony O?Rourke-Kilburn, head brewer from Wold Top Brewery to talk about the Hunmanby brewery?s award-winning beer followed by a presentation to celebrate the brewery raising over ?10,000 for the?Candlelighters charity that supports children with life limiting illnesses.
Gill Mellor owns the micro-brewery with husband Tom and is very grateful to Ian Maclean and his team at the Marine Bar for offering to host the event on 18th February; ?We would not have been able to reach our ?10,000 target without the generosity of our customers, suppliers, friends and family and welcome people to come and join us at this event and meet some of the Candlelighters team that do such amazing work.?
The brewery staff decided to raise money for Candlelighters when Dan Bayes, son of the brewery?s cellar man Geoff, lost his battle to a rare form of aggressive bone cancer, osteosarcoma, in April this year, aged just 25.
Tom Mellor continued; ?We were humbled and inspired by the way that the Bayes family, supported by the Candlelighters charity, had coped with Dan?s 13 year illness and decided to raise money for the Leeds based charity that is dedicated to combatting childhood cancer and to making the lives of the children and their families more bearable.?
The brewery raised the money by producing a limited edition ale called Candlelight and by entering a team of runners that include brewery staff and Dan?s mum, Barbara, to tackle Europe?s biggest half marathon, the Great North Run.
The Meet the Brewer event is free and starts at 8pm on 18th February.? All are welcome.
