Against the Grain highly commended at Free From Food Awards

An East Yorkshire brewery is celebrating after its gluten free beer was highly commended in a national competition for gluten free foods.
Judges at the?Foods Matter Free From Food Awards considered Wold Newton based Wold Top Brewery?s Against the Grain to have a? ?Floral aroma, nice hoppy palette?, and concluded that it was ?dry and delicate.?
Brewed with maize, not wheat, Against the Grain is a full flavoured bitter beer with a good head, refreshing bitterness and a citrus hop after taste. It has an ABV of 4.5% and its gluten content is certified to be well below the Codex standard of 20ppm.
Gill Mellor, who owns the brewery with husband Tom is delighted with the success; ?We?ve only been marketing Against the Grain for a year and this is its second award.? It won the gold medal in the speciality bottled beer category at the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Northern awards in January and has now been highly commended by people who are allergic to wheat.?
Now in their third year, theFreeFrom Food Awards celebrate the innovation and imagination shown by the food industry in creating foods that do not include many of the allergens like wheat and gluten that may cause health problems.
